Obama`s speech shows how he is a
credible source as he uses first-hand experience to detail his battles with
racism. Obama tells his story of how commentators have deemed him “too black”
or “not black enough.” This was clear racial profiling during his bid for the
presidency. Obama was very likable not
for his color of skin, but his ideology of racism and his hatred for America to
be separated based on color. Obama is a very credible source as he talks from
experience and has the ability to tell his story based on life. He talks about
his family history as he described slavery as the only unconstitutional problem
with the original constitution. Obama
identified himself as a Christian making him more knowledgeable and also likable Obama will be able to connect more with his voters who are of Christian
religion and seem more likable due to it.
Obama analytically talks about Reverend Wright and how he knows about
his criticism on racism, the problem with America and the conflicts in the Middle
East. He tells his story about how he does not agree with him all the way in
some of these issues and explains why.
In the radio podcast, “Ally`s
Choice” the narrator Lu Olkowski, is telling the
story of her sisters who one portrays as black while the other presents herself
as white with no history of black in her. Lu is credible as she lived with her sisters
and experienced the changes and horrible torture both endured. Lu portrays through her sisters and mother that
east Jackson is a prominently black neighborhood. When the merger of blacks and
white first happened, tension was immediately present when African American
were cursed at with racial slurs and even tormented with hate. Lu has knowledge
as she talks about two towns that are racially divided.
In Allys choice, I found it very saddening and shocking considering it is now 2016, but yet racism is still a big issue in America. It was sad hearing all those things that Ally and her sister had to go through, because they lived in a prominently African American community and their skin color. It was shocking to hear that when Ally considered herself black she got teased and bullied, but then when she considered herself white, she was the one doing the teasing, even if it was toward her sister. This angered me knowing she just flipped her race card so she wouldn’t have to deal with what her sister was going through. Also when her husband started telling their son about the KKK I was completely shocked, stating that they were going to fight people together when he got older.
ReplyDeleteNow in President Obama’s speech it made me feel as if we were all one, at certain points through out the speech. He stated that “... we are truly one,” which would make any reader feel as if we one one community, rather than separated by race. Yet even though ending racism needs to happen, it still is a problem because the way children are raised reflects on their parents, so if parents teach their child that we are all one, then eventually one-day racism won’t be an issue.
I agree with you Alyssa, I think it is shocking that racism still breeds within the small towns across the United States. It is really prevalent in the south still, decades after the abolishment of slavery and desegregation. Listen to Ally's choice the most crazy thing I heard was there is a sign outside of Waverley warning african americans to stay out after dark. This makes you think, what goes on in that small town after dark? Also, Why do officials of the town allow this to happen? On to the subject of which is more credible I would say they are both credible. Obama's "A More Perfect Union" is credible because after all he is the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth and is a very intellectual human being. Obama also gives personal examples and experiences of what he has gone through throughout his life. President Obama speech also had a lot of power behind his speech. However, I feel Ally's choice had much more impact on me personally. I do not know if it was because it was an audiotape so you can hear the emotion from each individual or if the examples are just that shocking. One could make the argument that it is not as credible because the are just regular people they do not hold prestige like President Obama does.
