War on Poverty

Cahn, Edgar S., and Jean C. Cahn. “The War on Poverty: A Civilian Perspective”. The Yale Law Journal73.8 (1964): 1317–1352. Web...

In the artilcle "The War on Poverty: A Civilian Perspective," by Edger S. Cahn and Jean C. Cahn, the authors describe the war on poverty to be shaped by "awareness of the interrelated-ness of the social, economic, legal, educational, and psychological problems which beset the poor..." People are concerned with the deficiencies which can flow from failure, and this causes dissent and critical scrutiny. They go on to explain that these deficiencies came from deep seated tendencies, rather than unchangeable characteristics, and that there is no reason why poverty cannot be avoided with certain programs that have been enacted. They state the many different programs and internships. These opportunities are attainable, but the individual must have a go get it mindset. All in all, the war on poverty has been a consistent tug-of-war game, and for our nation to win this war we must become more driven and persevere through the struggle.
