The rich get blamed for the circumstances of the poor.

Do the wealthy have the responsibility of taking care of the poor?

If we are to simply blame the rich and have them task them with the  responsibility of taking care of the poor, then we are taking the easy way out. Instead of working for that success, people are too dependent on others to support them so that they won't have to them self. No one ever said it was going to be easy, but then again if it was everybody would be doing it. It's all about hard work and determination, and that alone is the only way out of poverty. If you simply blame it on the rich then you're not helping out the poor in any way. All you're doing is taking hard earned money away from the men and women who pay the most in taxes and then giving out free handouts to the less fortunate.
In “RIP, the Middle Class: 1946-2013” by Edward McClelland, we can see this idea that it's not the riches fault. He goes on to say that jobs were readily available and it was super easy to find work and talk of the " income gap" was basically non- existent for lack of better terms. However, I believe this reinforces my argument because it just shows how it's not gonna be easy and you have to work your ass off to obtain what you want in life. Doesn't mean it'll work out, but at least you tried in the end.
In the other article, " Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, the maids talk about how it's okay that their pay isn't great, but it's gucci cause they are getting paid. I totally agree with this because honestly you are cleaning a house for a living. No college or highschool required to clean a house. All you need is a broom, duster and a mop basically and you are good to go. The job you have should resemble the pay you receive.

  1. Do the wealthy have a responsibility to care for the poor? I believe that for the most part they don’t have the responsibility to take care of the poor, but I do believe it depends on the situation. According to the bible the wealthy are supposed to help take care of the poor. I do believe in helping others but, I feel as if they should try and help themselves too. If I were wealthy I would want to help out the “poor” because that’s who I am, but there would be standards as to who I help. I believe that if someone is working hard to try and climb up the ladder that they should be given assistance, but if they are content with the government giving them handouts they should stop receiving assistance so they can get up off their butts and try for themselves. I feel like the government has the responsibility to take care of the poor to a certain extent, but that the poor should focus on bettering themselves. In the Nickel and Dimed essay it’s about a house maid and why they must do while working. It can easily be concluded that the company keeps more money than they give to the employees and the employees hardly ever get anything to eat. I understand that the people who make the money don’t necessarily want to pay the house maid a fortune, they want to keep most of it to themselves because they earned it. They should however be fed. This doesn’t make the company look good at all. They have the saying “more money, more problems”, and that can be true when people start to get greedy and always want more than they have. But all in all the rich shouldn't be required to take care of the poor, especially when the poor are content with the handouts they receive.
