In the article “Dadbod: A New Word for a Timeless Physique”,
Spencer Kornhaber explains the art of the dadbod. The dadbod has totally been
lifted high upon a pedestal in a way that men are actually striving for this
look. I’m going to go ahead and note my thesis I chose for this article so that
I can better explain how shocked I feel towards the world we are living in
today. The thesis I went with is, “Women face pressure toward Barbie-doll
sculpting; men get to remain proudly pudgy—welcome to Gender Studies 101.” This
stuck out to me so much because I feel that women are often held to a higher
standard than men when it comes to appearance. Once dadbod made its debut into
our society it became apparent that men are being praised for lack of exercise
and slightly flawed eating/drinking habits all while women are still being expected
to obtain and/or keep a perfect figure.
The two articles connected in the aspect that both dealt
with the different views society has in regards to men versus those it has
towards women.
I agree not necessarily with the thesis chosen but with the double standards that are set. How men want to be lazy and how women are expected to keep that tip top shape. From personal experience I can say that is false. Most guys actually want to keep a good physique not only because it attracts people, but also because it is a sign of a healthy life style. Going back to the thesis chosen, I don’t think this is the thesis because it is an example. It doesn’t really share much of what the whole essay is about.
