In the essay "The Death of Pretty" the
author, Pat Archibald, explains his point of view on what he thinks woman
thrive for and how he thinks the team pretty is "dying" and now women
are striving to be hot, which is terrible to him. His thesis says it all, “Young women today do not seem to aspire to
pretty, they prefer to be regarded as hot.” In the beginning of his
essay his gives of his definition of pretty by stating” I
define pretty as a mutually enriching balanced combination of beauty and
projected innocence." He draws back on
time and gives examples on how woman used to “project innocence and virtue”
and insist that woman do not inspire to be pretty anymore but rather hot. “Hotness, on the other hand, is a
commodity. Its value is temporary and must be used. It is a
consumable.” He ends his essay with pleads for woman to
return to being “pretty.” My feelings towards his argument? Whatever loser let us woman do what we want. Amirit?
In the second essay “Dadbod: A new word for a
timeless physique”, author Spencer Kkornhaber first explains what a “dadbod” is
and then goes into how it effects our cultural as now some men might feel as
though they don’t have to have those washboard abs as they will still get dates,
but woman still work towards having a banging body and perfect eveythings. His
thesis wraps everything up, “A catchy name for your
physique doesn't mean you're special; it means that finally, you’re just like
everyone else.”
