Standards for Men and Women

These two articles do a great job in highlighting the different ways men and women are viewed in society. In Pat Archibald's articles "The Death of Pretty" the article focuses entirely on the way men look at women and their bodies and in Spencer Kornhaber’s article "Dadbod", the way women feel about the specific body type is merely irrelevant. The author of "The Death of Pretty" mentions that women strive to be either hot or pretty. He uses most of the article to explain how women need to portray themselves in a certain way in order to attract a male. The article suggests that you can only be appealing to a man if you are a combination of beautiful and innocent. A good thesis would be “That special combination of beauty and innocence, … inspires men to protect and defend [them]”. The ideas in Kornhaber’s article "Dadbod" shows a clear difference between the way people expect  men and women to carry themselves and the physical standards that they are held to. The author of "Dadbod" adds a comedic factor to his article unlike Pat Archibald’s serious tone, portraying the idea that women need to take the way they look seriously and men can be lazy and just have fun with their bodies.
