In the The Death Of Pretty, the author talks about that pretty, one of our traditional idea about women is dying.  In the past, women tried to project innocence with the beauty they had, no matter how did their souls really look like.  However, today, women tend to consume hotness more often than the combination of beautiful and innocence.  Our society tends to value hotness more as well.

In the article Dadbod: A New Word for a Timeless Physique, the author introduced a term for a kind of body of men that is quite new, dadbod.  It refers to the body shape that is between a beer gut and a working out.  It’s, rather than a shifting tastes, a shifting way of talking about tastes.  For people who have a dadbod body shape, it means not you are special but you are like everyone else.

The main idea of The Death Of Pretty is that women today are away from the combination of beauty and innocence which is referred to as pretty.  So author wants to ask women to bring that kind of value back.

For Dadbod: A New Word for a Timeless Physique, the main idea is that the raise of the new term dadbod shows a shift of value of men. In addition, for people who have the body shape, they become more normal in the society.

Thesis: The Death Of Pretty: “Pretty, pretty is dying."

Dadbod: A New Word for a Timeless Physique: “Is "dadbod" a hashtag joke or a social-sexual movement?  A bit of both, probably.  “

  1. I feel like the author ( Archibold) from the "Pretty" article implied that he wanted to bring back the good old days where women dressed more respectable. However, he said it super misogynistic as if a girl's only purpose in life is too look cute and innocent for a man. At the end of the, it is their choice and should do whatever feel comfortable. If she wants to dress slutty and attract guys who just want sex then it is up to her, but if she wants to dress like a prude then she should also. It basically boils down to whatever guy she wants to attract to her. There is so many girls in this world so you seriously cannot expect every girl to dress like a saint either; there needs to be a balance.
As for the Dadbod, I agree that most men have it just to fit into society without being labled an outcast. Being fit, and having a good body requires extreme dedication; this is why having a dad-bod is way easier to achieve for most people. But because it's easier for most people, having a dad-bod will make you average; it's basically a paradox since you are never going to feel special.
