The Death of Pretty
Pat Archbold defines both “pretty” and “hot” in
ways I have never thought about before, at least on the level he did. Archbold
described hot as a resource that is used and forgotten kind of like
fossil fuels (gasoline) something we need but really don’t truly respect its
importance. And pretty as something men respect and want to protect,
something they love. This is because of women want to be hot like the people
they see on TV and at the Oscars, rather the pretty women with a great attitude
and a smart brain who is compassionate and smart. Archbold’s main point in this
blog in my opinion is to say that women and men have lost touch with what is
truly important about being a women that goes beyond looks. It’s the compassion
a man feels for you and how he treats you. Whether you want to be someone he
loves and protects or someone he has a solely physical attraction to, and that
it is up to both the women and the men to change this perspective of being
“hot” and make it so all women are pretty. Pretty to be confident with
themselves so a man will love them and keep them safe rather than just see them
as a resource

The funny thing is that although, I found both articles to be a double standard, I almost wholeheartedly agree with Archbold. I believe that what he is saying is true. Yes - many of the women in our generation strive to look good, and nothing more. Good looks can only take you so far, and many fail to see the importance of that. What truly makes someone beautiful is their soul, their character, their personality. These are all things that you can't see from merely looking at someone. A person's inward qualities are what, to me, make them beautiful. This can as well go for men. People tend to forget that looks don't last forever. Outer beauty is fleeting, but inner beauty is timeless.
